Historical Naval Warfare

UBOAT is a simulation game developed by Deep Water Studio and published by PlayWay S.A. The game features survival gameplay where players have to manage their U-boat crew. It has sandbox mechanics that imposes ever-changing challenges and scenarios.

The Lives Of German Sailors

UBOAT is based on World War II. Players assume the role of a German boat skipper. They are commanding the German U-boat under the supervision of the Kriegsmarine. They have to manage the crew to ensure their survival during the naval wars. The U-boat serves both as their vehicle and home and it’s up to the players to keep the crew alive from sinking. Players can issue commands from the deck. They have a lot of naval tools and weapons at their disposal. The periscope and hydrophone can find any enemy boat. The U-boat’s guns, missiles, and cannons are ready for shooting down hostiles. The Torpedo Data Computer can be run manually or automatically. The crew can be assigned on the U-boat’s different sections. Some can perform repairs, reloading ammunition or shoot with the guns.

Keeping The Crew Alive

Players have to follow orders from the Kriegsmarine. Disobeying their orders will have repercussions. A successful operation gives reputation points and an extra budget for the whole crew. Players will gain recognition as the competent boat skipper. They will have to use their budget for upgrading their U-boat with better technology. The reputation points are used for gaining permissions that can boost the crew’s performance. Players can deploy their officers to research new technologies. The sandbox mechanics adds realism to the game. Players will never know what will they encounter in the sea. The crew also requires medical and psychological attention as they would sustain injuries and stress during the war. Their health will affect the ship’s performance. There will be instances where players have to leave one crew member behind to save others. They might face against British forces along the way. The U-boat’s engine might break during its operation so players must watch out. Players can salvage parts from enemy boats after sinking them. Being calm under pressure will help players endure challenges. Creativity and management skills are encouraged in the game to solve scenarios like leaking water, damaged engine, low oxygen supply, depleting resources or depressed U-boat crew.

Deep Naval Strategy

UBOAT focuses more on the strategic side of naval warfare. Players have to make careful decisions to ensure the survival of the U-boat crew. Their micromanagement skills will be tested during intense naval warfare. Following the Kriegsmarine’s orders will also reward them.
